Welcome to Kyra Sedgwick . . .

brief bio ...

Kyra Sedgwick was born in New York City to a wealthy family on August 19, 1965 and spent her childhood attending private schools. In 1981, at the age of 15, Kyra made her professional acting debut in the Off-Broadway play "Time Was". The following year, at 16, she had her TV acting debut in the regular role of Julia Shearer in the NBC daytime serial "Another World".

The USC graduate then went on to etch out a three-pronged career on the stage, screen and television, earning plaudits for her work in the latter medium. Two of her more acclaimed TV projects were Lemon Sky, a 1987 drama that also served to introduce her to her future husband Kevin Bacon, who was cast as her half-brother, and 1992's Miss Rose White, which starred Kyra as a Jewish career woman in search of her past.

Kyra's break-out role was that of Ron Kovic's high school girlfriend in Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July. The following year she made a memorable impact as the daughter of the pathologically repressed Mr. and Mrs. Bridge. She then moved into more adult territory with her starring role in Cameron Crowe's Singles, playing a young Seattle professional negotiating the pleasures and pitfalls of love with Campbell Scott.

Kyra has also appeared in Phenomenon with John Travolta, Secondhand Lions with Michael Caine, and The Woodsman with husband Kevin Bacon.

Kyra and Kevin Bacon were married on September 3, 1988. They have two children - son Travis born in 1989 and daughter Sosie Ruth born March 1992. The family currently lives in New York City.
